My works are personal and private, and I am tired of the deeply rooted and pervasive male gaze. Behind this is that for thousands of years, under the patriarchal society, the power of men and women is not equal. I therefore want to express my feminine gaze through my works,&nbsp;and to establish the law of desire. Get out of the object looked at and establish my subjective position. Whether it's the series of boys that I follow and will continue to make, the projection on men, or the photo collection "The Praise of Love" that I shot from 2019 to 2020, the exploration and expression of intimacy, of love. But honey, when can we really look at each other? https://bingnanlovyna.cargo.site/The-boys Mon, 18 Jul 2022 15:15:36 +0000 lovyna https://bingnanlovyna.cargo.site/The-boys The boys In the long history of art, it is relatively rare to see the behavior and perspective of a woman as a subject gazing at a man, especially an Asian woman gazing at a european male. How many female perspectives do we get to see, to actively gaze at men? I have been working on this project of photographing boys since 2020, completely end in early 2026.&nbsp;The reason for this project is to heal my fear of men, I come from China, an Asian country where the relationship between men and women is more unequal and traditional than in Europe. This fear and dislike of men started when I was very young. At the same time, I am naturally attracted to more feminine, delicate and beautiful men, rather than the traditional manly men. Not all of the boys I photographed were heterosexual males, there were many sexual minorities, like gay, even transgender people who were born assigning to men. As this project has progressed and my ego has grown, I have moved from chaos to clarity, from youth to maturity, and experienced a whole new force. A force that comes from the female sexual instinct, a force that actively devours. The female vagina symbolizes the primal power of the maternal lineage, it is a nest, a black hole, and an Abyss endowed with the power to actively devour. That’s also why I photographed tunnels, caves, fruits, and other objects that serve as metaphors for the female reproductive organs. Instead of blaming women for the reality of objectification, I think it's more relevant to develop a stronger force that devours the other. Over the course of those five years, I’ve met many kinds of young men, There are boys who are attracted to girls, non-binary transgender people, and gay. Through my interactions with them, I’ve overcome my own fear of men. I have grown from youth to maturity, from confusion to clarity. This book is more like my personal growth journal. The female gaze and female desire have always been central themes in my work.As an Asian woman, I photograph white European men in an effort to establish the subjectivity of my perspective. An Affirmation of the Power of the Gaze. As this project progressed and my ego grew, i experienced a whole new kind of strength. A strength that comes from the female sexual instinct, a strength that actively devours. It is not directly revealed, but rather hidden and inclusive. Instead of blaming women for the reality of objectification, I think it is more relevant to develop a more powerful force that devours the other. The vagina symbolizes primal matriarchal power. The vagina is not a container, it is a black hole and an abyss that has the power to actively absorbs energy. So in this book, I also photographed many objects that symbolize female genitalia, such as caves, railroad crossings, fruits, and flowers. The written section, on the other hand, focuses more on my personal growth and the female strength I’ve come to appreciate. This book is available in two editions. The first version places those photos that allude to female genitalia above the text. The second version involves placing text between the pages. It creates a sense of peering into a cave. Personally, I think this might be more interesting. In this book, I’ve photographed many images of caves, fruits, and other elements that serve as metaphors for the female reproductive organs. All the photos in this series are from everyday real life. I want to record real dreams. George Bataille once said that love places us in the universe. And my pictures are fragments of this universe. There are not only intimate pictures between me and my friends, but also pictures I took of falling flowers, churches, and pictures I found on the street. Intimacy is as fleeting as a falling flower, but behind the fleeting moment there seems to be something eternal, something we call faith.
